Return to the psychic experience I Hear Voices Before I Sleep

I have just stated researching this as this is something that I have experienced also. I would not class myself as having any major mental issues ect. Equally however I have never really been a big believer in things such as ghosts/spirits ect! I had my first experience when I was 17. It was shortly after my Grandmother passed away and she would speak to me at night. However when I woke the next morning I could never determine whether this had happened or I had dreamed it. I did speak with my family about this but it was discarded and not taking seriously. This went on until I was around 25 althogh there was no consistancy as it could be 2-3 months between having these experiences. It did used to really freak me out if I am honest and scare me quite a bit. My Grandfather died 2 months ago and again around 2-3 weeks after his passing I spoke with him again in my sleep. I can't help but feel that they know this freaks me out and he has not been back since. The main thing is though what is this. Is it a state of mind that I am in that makes me think I hear this or is there something actually there. If anyone has any comments or feedback on this I would be intested to hear your thoughts and opinions. I can confirm that I am not crazy and have a stable working and normal lifestyle! Thanks ADS81

I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their stories, I think it's important that we be willing to share and learn from our common experiences, no matter how far from the mainstream they may seem to be. I'd just like to interject a word caution here... This issue of what is exactly going on when we hear voices is a very tricky issue to examine indeed. I happen to know this very well because I am a psychoanalyst in training and I also hear voices. All in all I think it boils down to a clash of reality systems - one that embraces the classic Newtonian/Scientific paradigm that modern medicine has come to represent, and the other the less cognitive or concrete observations of the Spiritually intuned. In the end, I think both have something of value to offer to the fray.
Simply put, if you hear voices and you're being assessed by an academically-trained clinician, you are Schizoaffective Disorder NOS at the least, and the diagnosis just get more sinister from there. There is just no room for other interpretations in the models they've been trained in. This is materialism people, and all things and manifestations of higher mystery boil down what Ken Wilber likes to call, Frisky Dirt. We are all a collection of colliding atoms, and if we're experiencing something beyond the typical five sense specturm, something must have gone drastically wrong in the chemical metabolism of the brain.
The simple solution, therefore lies in chemically bombarding the brain to bring the brain back into balance. Now, it's clear that people experience highly disturbing states when dealing with nontypical states of awareness, and medication does work to give people respite. Their is a use. But saying that ALL NONTYPICAL STATES OF AWARENESS BOIL DOWN TO CHEMICAL DEFICIENCIES IS DOWNRIGHT SHORTSIGHTED. However, if we leave room for a grander vision of reality in our reality system, such as the room for a Spiritual Dimension to existence, there comes a whole 'nother level to this mysterious matter. Voices could be the cross chatter of overlapping realities, the messages from discarnate entities, resonance from issues from past lives, transmissions from extra terrestrial and higher dimensional personalities, etc. Etc. Etc.
Personally, in my search to find the truth, I have found it best to be open to all possibilities. Truth comes from seeking, and maybe this phenemenon can serve us best if we start to deal with the gritty reality behind this issue - wouldn't it be more useful if we stopped trying to label it as just one thing and address it as the legitimate mystery that it is - hearing voices is sometimes useful, sometimes frightening, sometimes insanity-producing and sometimes altogether enlightening. If we look at the work of Stanislav Grof, we can consider hearing voices as a potentially transformative event, and in modern science, potentially debillitating. The truth is, for one person it's a blessing, for another it is a curse. So where does the problem lie? It lies in personal psychology and how we learn to relate to the ISSUE at hand. To treat people, or to help people get a grasp on what they're experiencing we need to deal with that person where they're at, and then maybe we can start to get a grasp on exactly what is at work in human consciousness.

Just a few thoughts. Know thyself, and if you need help, SEEK IT! Do not be afraid to reach out to your fellow soul - that's where the real growth happens!

Namaste!

I am so greatful to all of you! I have always heard the voices for as long as I can remember. I've never actually asked a question but recently I was getting annoyed and I told them to stop. I didn't get any response.
Like the others, it only happens when it is quite. Usually, I am the last one asleep. Lately though I have been going to sleep before my husband. I have not heard them.

What does that mean? 😕

I lately have been hearing the voices before I go to sleep. Often times they call m name and that's all I really get, its really annoying cause its loud and I can't tell if I'm really hearing it or its in my head through Clairaudience. But it drives me cooo coo bananas, casue I don't know what to do about it either, Nothing to fear your never alone ^____^... (depending on what religion you fallow)

I have a very similar problem, although I haven't tried replying to the voices, I hear them like snippets of conversation or possibly memories, its almost like I hear my own internal monologue but the voice isn't mine, like I'm remembering something that happened, I find them very difficult to remember but I know they arent mine. Its very disconcerting and I was begining to think I was crazy until I found this article

When I was a child, remember hearing a voice when I was in bed at night. I don't remember what it was saying, but I do remember that the voice (There was only one) sounded like a man talking through a fan. I also remember being very afraid that the voice would talk to me. It never actually spoke TO me, it was as though I was in a room with two people who were talking and I could only hear one of them. I don't recall it ever acknowledging me, but the experience was real and disconcerting. Do you have any advice as to how to make myself sensitive to that again? It was frightening, but I'm interested now.

I swear I do the exact same thing! All of it... Everything you've said. I even tried talking back and asking questions too! And getting answers! This is all very new to me. I hear people whisper my name often... And voices as I'm falling asleep. I hear different voices and just words here and there... And sometimes I'll be singing a song in my head as I'm falling asleep and realize that I don't know it... After my grandpa died, I heard his voice often. And after my dog died, I heard his collar tag making a jingling noise alot. Sometimes it scares me and I get a really bad feeling... I don't know why. If you have any experiences in particular you'd like to share, I'd love to hear more. I'm very interested! Thanks

😕 I'm back to tell my stories and this is for real. Hear lately I had been hearing some voices and I had heard them while I was wide awake. I even heard a woman scream the only time I hear voices it would be late at night and after my husband is in bed and I have no TV or radio on or any other noise at all. When I do hear the voices they would only say one or two words and it will not last long and by the time I hear them they are gone but I would still ask them what did you say? Or Okay but I have a feeling these voices I hear they don't think I should remember what they say that is why they say it fast. It would be a woman or man's voices. I can tell that they are in my brain when they do say any thing. But there were other times over the years I had felt the voices forces. At one time I had laid down on the bed during the day on my side my husband was at work and still no TV or any noise I was about to closth my eyes then all of the sudden I heard this strange noise it sounded like a electric voice his force was so strong I can feel his voice right in front of my face that really freaked me out and I jumped after I had heard it. It wasn't really a word it was more like a yell. Then about 8 years ago I had heard this older man's voice and I was alone at home and still no noiseI was in a spare bedroom and I had heard this older man's voice it that was more then one or two words but it sounded like he was right beside of me next to the closet and he was talking loud and clear and that really freak me out and it really blew my mind and by the time I started to respond his voice had stopped so I looked out side the back door out all the windows and front door and no one was there. When ever I hear these voices it is all ways deadly quiet and antoher thing I heard I was alone as the same thing and I was in the kitchen and it was still no noise and I had no TV on and I heard some thing where the stove and the cover over the stove and there was no wind out side and I sware I heard some kind of soft singing like angels it was so soft and strange but it didn't last long. One more odd thing Where I live now this happened last year 2007 I was at our computer and my husband was in bed I like to stay up late well for some reason I had looked away from the computer and I felt strange and all of the sudden I looked between the door and the comuter desk and there was a pitch black back ground and I had my over head light on well I had seen this round face just the face it had brown wavy hair and dark brown eyes he was using his force to let me know that he was there but he didn't say a word he just pushed his face to let me know he was there and then he had forced his way back in the pitch black back ground. Just it was really so strange to me and confused. I hope you all don't think I'm nuts but this is for real. Hope to here from you but not in my head okay Thanks for your support.:>)

Hi everyone,

I have been hearing voices for 12 years now long time now, right before I go to sleep.
I can tune into the voices and you here more voices when you are very tired. Usually when I go to sleep, I say to my self I want to hear what the voices have to say tonight. So I put a pad and pen next to my bed, ill ask a question mentally and I usually get a smart as or a angry responce. Usually its a mans voice, I don't know where it comes from. Ill try an ask what is your name, sometimes the voices echoes or its so loud it will jolt me up out of bed. I just recently started the pen and pad. Ill wright down keys words or names or whatever that I hear.
I can tune them voices in or go right to sleep. Its really if I want to stay awake with my eyes closed and keep the mental thought process going, or go sleep.

Hi, I experience things like this but I have never had a reply to these voices, I hear lots of noises cracks and creaks, strange voices in my head I try to get responses but I can't. I think that you might be psychic or just might have spirits living in your house. But I can tell you try not to be too scared they probably won't hurt you and they might just need help. Maybe you should try and talk to them and just say you don't mean any harm and ask them some questions like why are you here? Or something. If you want to talk more just post a comment in one of my stories:)

Hi, I left a comment on this story a little further down. I said how this happened to me. It still does, and I have somewhat come in contact with some. They were two little girls. Eventually I will have a story up about this. If you have any ways to contact one of the spirits that you hear, can you please comment on one of my stories telling me how. Also, do some of the spirits sound like your friends or family members? I have heard that it is possible for them to sound exactly like someone you know. I was just wondering if this has happened to you, since that happens to me a lot but not as often as the voices I hear that I have never heard before. Please, if you have any information on this, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me. Good luck with all of this!

leolady,

Thank you for sharing your story. It is a wonderful feeling to know that there are other people out there who experience the very same things as me. Sometimes, I also hear people talking and converstations taking place. I only notice this tho right before I fall asleep at night, or before I drift off to sleep before a nap. I can hear the conversations taking place and at the time they are happening, I know what they are saying - but when I wake up the next morning I don't remember what was said. It's almost as if the conversation was erased from my mind. Like you and many others to, they sometimes call my name. I never recognize the voices tho... It's always someone I have never heard before. I do not know why this happens or what it is exactly. I once contacted a parapsychologist about this strange phenomenon and he told me that I had the ability to shift my conscieneness to another frequency or plane to hear astral beings...

Oh, I am so glad I found your story. I was just searching the web to find out what this is. This happens to me ALOT but mostly at night. For me, the voice or voices sounds like it is in a tin can or on an old radio, it seems far off but right next to me. I can only make out some words. Very mono tone. I don't know how to help myself connect. I either see people who smile and don't speak or I hear speaking and no people are there. It is quite frustrating. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, Leolady89:
I am SO glad that I could be of help. Not everyone acknowledges this and so I truly don't know! I am glad too that my site (do you mean the "Profile" site, or have you begun reading the manuscript on psychic molestation?) is of help to you.
A friend of mine said to me a long time ago that we are on this earth to help each other! I am glad to have been of help to you!
Take care and may God bless you!
Erika

Hello! My name is Erika, but you can find me under "Profile for Constancy" on this forum. Just try the "google" on this site! Most of your questions are answered there and with regard to "hearing voices" you have already found out, looking at the responses to your query, that you are not alone.

Your psychic sense of HEARING seems well developed since you can perceive conversations, have asked a question (or maybe two) and have received an answer! All you actually have to understand is that you are a psychic, and that the voices you are perceiving are the voices of psyches, also called souls, also called spirits, and even ghosts. Once this is clear to you, you might just want to find out which souls are trying to contact you, and so you would ask those who are sending you thought, whose souls they are, and what is wanted of you!
Once you know who it is you are in touch with, you decide whether you want to continue these conversations. If you are not interested, you let that be known POLITELY! If the souls which have approached you continue contacting you, they can't be GOOD! Decent souls stop being with you if they are not wanted. It could also be that, if they persist in contacting you though you told them that you are not interested, they are just plain unintelligent and don't understand a NO when they are given one!
Since you have asked a question and have been given an answer, it is known that you UNDERSTAND, and now must find out who is contacting you!
I hope that this has been of help to you. My e-mail address is:
erika.eickhoff [at] sympatico.ca in case you would like to contact me other than through
this site.
Take care!
Erika

I haven't heard voices before going to sleep, but I have heard a woman screaming. A few years ago, when my daughter and I were living in a different place, right before I drifted off to sleep, I would hear a woman screaming. At first this scared me, a lot, but then I got used to it. After we moved, the screaming stopped. Well a few months ago, my daughter mentioned that when we lived in that apartment, sometimes she would hear a woman screaming right before she went to sleep. I was shocked. I hadn't told her about the screaming because I didn't want to scare her, but when she told me about her experience, I finally told her that the same thing happened to me to. I've often wondered if that woman was murdered while she living in that apartment? It just seems odd that both of us heard it.

Wierd, I have a similar story. And it does happen every night before I go to sleep. I hear people whispering and sometimes just talking. I've always ignored the voices, thinking that its just nothing, but it started happening a lot. 😕 I hear things like "Help!" or some people discussing something. After reading some similar experiences, I'm too afraid to answer back.
If anyone has answers please give me advice as well.

The same thing started to happen to me before I go to sleep... The only other time it happened was at night but I wasn't going to bed. When I hear them though its usually through my left ear... I don't know why and the last time I heard them one was a clear voice but the other was strange like a radio voice and was unclear. It was almost robotic sounding because of that.

Ok, I am so glad I found your story. This is EXACTLY what happens to me. I have tried responding to one, but was so tired, I fell asleep too quickly. I was depressed, and angry and a voice came to me and just said "hello..." I didn't feel like dealing with it and just said "Go Away!" and you just heard this little "Well then..."
I only hear them before I go to sleep. I would like to contact one, but I never get to. Please keep me posted on this.
