In Between Dream State And Awake

I wanted to know if anyone had any insight on a few experiences I have had. Last night I was asleep for a short period of time. I would say about 30 minutes before it happened. I feel like I am in between a dream and awake state. I do not know I am in this state until I snap out of it. When I snap out of it, it is usually in a panic. I am usually defending myself in someway. If my girlfriend is next to me I will grab her in a panic. I am usually not fully awake when I do this.

When I snap out of the state I can usually see something in front of me. It is usually hazy. On one occasion, I awoke and tried grabbing it. This state of in between dream and awake, only happens on occasion. I have woke up in tears before so scared. When I awake from this state I actually feel like my eyes have been open. It feels like my vision switches to the awake state. In real life, I do not scare easy and rarely cry. More frequently, I wake suddenly and feel like someone is there. I have read about panic attacks in sleep. How stress during the day can bring them on. I did not have any stress yesterday or for the past couple of weeks, and it still happened. When I awake and have these feelings, I am not aware of any dreams before hand. It almost feels like something is watching or trying to communicate with me, and I will not let it. I am too scared to maybe.

Does anyone have any insight?

Well I don't know what happens to me, I sometimes in a trance all of a sudden. Its more like I am walking in strange world with strange stuff. This happened to me when I was with my mom for shopping. I was standing, thinking about something and I don't know how I kind of fell asleep. Well describing my surrounding was pretty hard. But anyways when I woke up my mom was gone. I was really startled that how can I sleep in the middle of shopping. I don't know if its an ability or not, when I focus on one person who is around in a limited range. I can tell where he is. Thats how I was able to find my mom in the crowd.

I am curious if anyone is still involved with this thread. I wanted to ask sk8mm99, if when you are having these sleep episodes, do you wake and view your room as it really is, and have visions of things that are not there? That being of animals, giant bugs, people, images of your room doing things such as moving when it shouldn't or feeling like something happened yet don't recall what? And in the process of awaking you jump up in a state of panic and turn on a light to see what it was, and slowly wake to full consciousness?

I have suffered from this for a long time, yet my dream state innermixes with my waking. I am awake, and realize that I am awake yet my dream state interfers with my awakeness and causes me to see things that aren't there. I usually come to full consciousness after 20 to 30 seconds, but I am not sure if that is caused from me turning on a light, or recognizing someone or hearing a voice of my wife or someone else asking me if everything is alright. I remember everything as if I was witnessing it in real time, unlike a dream that slowly fades, I can recall every wake dream I have had.

I have seen everything from giant floating fish with sharp teeth, a man with a glass bowl smiling at me, my light fixture dropping down and snapping a picture, giant bugs crawling up the wall, ghostly figures touching my shoulder, rodent like animals running under my covers, etc, etc... I can recount every story in great detail as if it happened yesterday...

Is this what you experience? Or somewhat?

This morning, I had a series of odd dreams in the stage between awake and asleep. I kept trying to retreat from something, and I had to wake up several times from layers of dreams before I awoke in real life.
I was extremely tired, and so if I didn't do it just right I would fall back into the layers of dreaming. In one of them I could see some queerly-shaped figure that looked like the paw of my cat, Toes. She passed away on the 14th of January in 08, but I got this odd feeling that she was trying to get my attention for some reason. I kept feeling more and more convinced that she might have something valuable to say, even though she was a cat. When I was almost awake, I got these extremely weird chills that made me shake violently and try to kick my covers off. Does that sound psychic or just my mind trying to tell me something?

Not sure if anyone still reading through this old post, but just curious myself, somehow stumbled across this subject while read about sleep pills... Anyways If someone could help me it would be great. In the past I have had dreams where for the most part I kind of remember somewhat of it, but then ill suddenly feel like I have woken up to where my eyes are open and my brain is functioning fully as far as memory goes, ill see my room most the time and usually see something else as if its a dream yet seems real and seems like I'm awake yet my body is paralyzed, I don't get scared that easily but what does scare me is the paralyzed part, ill try my hardest to move and get up with all my power but for a brief time I can't move, and eventually I snap out of it and fully awake... Its happened enough times to where I know what's going on and I'm able to snap out quicker. I remember the very first time it happen to me it seemed like a wizard was floating is front of me and massive winds were blowing by me... Any thoughts?

I found your comment very informative and helpful. When I get the chance I will find his book and read further into it. I've always been fearful during such moments but, if and when it occurs again I'll have a much better view on the situation. As for my protection, I'll envision an M16 and a K-Bar haha 😉
Again, thank you.

I just read your post at the bottom of all the ones posted. The person telling you not to be afraid is probably a guide or teacher I would think. Must be someone trying to help. Talk to them, let them help you. John Magnus says focus on the center of your chest and imagine a little white pearl of light. Think love into it and make it grow until it surrounds you. Then ask to talk to your guides or teachers. Practice visualizing the light until it is second nature and any time you are afraid envision the light of love growing and surrounding you for protection. Around the light you can envision protective armor, shields, swords or anything you think appropriate. Beat the fear.

The state in between awake and asleep at night is the hypnogogic state and the between when waking is the hypnopompic state. There is a lot of stuff on the net about these. I have been reading a book called Astral Projection and the Nature of Reality by John Magnus where he talks about a lot of cool and interesting stuff. Out of body experiences, astral projection, belief systems, psychic abilities a little. The guy has a fantastic mind and he's not pushy or to full of himself. Just interesting. He explains sleep paralysis as a natural state of sleep that we usually don't know about because we are asleep during it. According to this book when your body falls asleep and your mind is still awake you then notice it. Also it is the state of mind from which he does his out of body and astral projections. The first time he projected out of his body he paniced because as he explains it, it was beyond his belief system. He says there is a lot to learn, gain and lots of fun experiences in these other realities. It sounds to me like you may be one of the lucky ones who can do this without years of trying. You should read his book. There may be more adventures coming your way than you can imagine. It's would be good to read about the scary parts and how to handle them before they happen anyway I think. Get the book. Read about astral projection on line, just read. Fear is not good in some of these states and you should definitely learn something of the nature of what's going on. What we have been taught to believe is not always what is real, and reality it seems isn't either.

I too have experienced a state of paralysis and being unable to scream or make any other vocalizations. For me it occurs randomly, thankfully it hasn't occurred recently. Usually everything appears realistic, just as my room would look direct to the last detail, other times its more hazy. I still have no clue how or why this occurs but I'm going to check out PathR's link to read on it.

i have experienced this several times in my life espcially after a loved one has passed away or there's someone I may be wanting to see, anyways someone said it was called sleep paralysis where you can hear or see things that arnt really there, basically it can be someone coming to visit you like your spirit guide or someone who has passed on, first time it ever happened I was really scared but now it's not so bad. Basically you seeing or hearing someone from different plain or world hoever you would liek to describe it. Plus the panic you feel may be your spirit entering back into your body and you awoke to soone before it could come back from wherever it was visiting, like you get the sense you know someone is doing good even though you havnt talked to them in awhile. But I hope things get better for you.

Path R,
Thank you so much for this information. I will certainly check with my family to see if they also experience this. I will also try hard to work on the advice you gave me.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Lotsasmiley

Someone else here was talking kind of about the thing. It is the battle between sleep and awake. It can be scary. I know I am pretty worked up when this happens to me. Ask a Doctor before anything else if it is this bad.

Maybe your body or mind is aware of something that can hurt or frighten you.

Hey, I'm 14 and I just want to tell you you're not alone:). I've had similar experiences, but the most recent happened to me just a few months ago.

I opened my eyes and I thought I had woken up, but everything seemed all hazy looking. The sensation was amazing but weird and kind of scary at the same time. Like a weird kind of daydream but not quite. I couldn't understand what was happening, I could see my mom sleeping in her bed nearby with the children and then a few minutes later this hazy flower or something drifted near me, it kind of looked like a lotus flower. I was able to reach out and I tried to grab it but it disappeared and then I "woke up" as if everything cleared and I literally just opened my eyes for the first time and actually waking up. But it felt as if they were open the whole time, I was trying to wake up my mom, because I thought I saw a dark hazy figure next to the bathroom door and started panicking before the feeling went away.

Everything just happened so fast and I never thought of looking into it until today.

To lotasmiley, google:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_Paralysishynopomic,hypnagagic.

Regarding the voices this is, a 3 dimension door way. Seems you have 3 guides which are near but will work with you little by little.

May I suggest that you check whom else in your family is wired the same way as yourself. For this happens to myself and my eldest daughter. I only went through the screeming when I was stressed, but no paralisis. My daughter has had the paralysis and saw with her eyes open in 3 dimension. I believe this can happen to many.

It is important that we as individuals we are at peace about the path. Being in a struggle within ourself can also show up in our dreams, some of this is due to how we are trained growing up.

Keep studing and asking your guides/helpers for proof this will prove itself that they are there to help and also validate when they are communicating.

You had a very stong bond with you dad, my
Condolences on you loss of a lovely union.
The upside is if you need him he will be near. But time will prove this.

Bless

I have had similar experiences. Recently I remember waking up after only being asleep for a short time and not being able to move. I trying to scream to my husband to help but the words would not come out of my mouth. Then I stood up (or dreamt I did) and there were voices everywhere trying to talk to me. I kept saying I can't understand. Then someone said, "your not ready." and I woke up.
I have also had a dream like ashley's where a black hooded man with a knife was standing beside my bed when I turned over. I screamed so loud in my dream that I woke the neighbours next door and they came to see if everyone was ok. Scariest dream EVER!
If someone knows what any of this means, I would love to know!

sk8m99 awake and asleep is precognitive.
For myself it has been my guides. There have been a few others but by clearing or smudging my home and setting a protection upon awaking and before falling asleep will limit the unwanted. Reactions of fear are items all people stuggle with at first because we feel threatened. It is imperative to create a clear dialogue with guides/helpers, this can be done by meditating, understand that you can test guides or spirits. If it is not a guide you can tell it to leave. Testing: ask it its intent 3 times. Per universal law it must speak the truth, also listen to your intuition, note what feelings thoughts you get.

The tunnel you described is ascending or moving up in the Astral realm, this is what opened the veil for you to see and some of this seight in precognitive will be the physical and spiritual realm together.

Even though we are spirit we must use understanding, shielding, knowledge to stand in a position of power.

Start with some of the basic's grounding which is pulling in universal energy into yourself, understanding the law of attraction, and a concept called: Energy following thought. Google universal laws.
Please click on user name: Oracle101 for other hints, plus a list of contacting your guides, see examples he has replied to others on this site.

Please take heed to what's happening because you are acting out physically grabing your partner. This situation is calling for immediate attention. You may also try Blue Bonji stone at night, see how to clear and set stone. Look into crystals for grounding to carry during day.
Look at medallions that represent protection which works with guides to keep a protective door where they work from within our Aura.

Blessings

I understand what you are going through. I am 22 years old and I have been experiencing this thing since I can remember. I have seen many people and things, and I have had many conversations. I am not sure as to what to do, as I am trying to find someone to help me, but I just know that you cannot be afraid... I have never been harmed by this, but you should look further into your abilities.

I have many experiences like this, except that I remember what I dream about before I wake up. Lately, I have been noticing that I am in the state between waking and sleeping. I do not usually see someone when I wake though. One thing to consider is that it may be your spirit guide trying to make contact with you. Good luck with your abilities! 😁

that happens to me a fair amount actually, except that I don't see things, I hear them. I usually hear footsteps, and sometimes voices. But whatever happens, that same fear is there. I think you may be feeling ghosts. I think that's what it is for me. Do you ever get the feeling while you're awake that you're not alone when you seem to be alone in a room, or hear footsteps, or see shadows out of the corner of your eyes? I haven't been able to stop the fear yet, but it's gotten less as I've gotten a bit more used to it, and accepted that I may be feeling ghosts. I think when we are in that state, halfway between sleep and being awake, we are weaker and more open to spirits. I would just suggest trying to get used to the idea, and then see what happens. Hope this helps!

I would try talking to it next time... I feel someone is trying to tell you something. Listen...

I have dreams like that but mine are more dark... A black hooded figure stands beside my bed... It feels scary & bad... It terrifies me... It feels like it has its hand on my throat trying to choke me & when I yell at it to go away nothing comes out my mouth no matter how hard I try... I feel paralized... When I first started having this dream when I was 8 after actually seeing the figure walk past my hallway when I was 6 I would wake up everytime in tears... I don't know why I have these dreams exctly but I hope you find out why you are having your dreams... I have many strange dreams... & they all seem to come true in one point of my life or the other... If you ever need to talk feel free to talk to me... Ill give you my email if you like...

Update to my experience. I had another experience last night. I was in between awake and asleep. Someone appeared and told me to not be afraid. They also asked me if I could hear them. I had tunnel vision until I snapped fully into the awake state. Through out the night I felt like several things were trying to contact me. I don't understand it and do not know how to deal with it.
