Why Do I Wake Up and Recognize my Roommate?

I am always in bed sleeping before my roommate comes back from studying or whatever. But every night, out of deep sleep, I wake up to hear her come through our main residence hall door, walk down the hall and then open our room door. And I just know it's her. Like I know I can just feel it.

For example, the other night I went to sleep at 10pm about, woke up at 12:17am to hear her come through the main door. And I knew it was her before she even keyed into our room. It could have been anyone! Anyone else that lives on this floor, people are always walking in and out. But why did I wake up out of dead sleep? And why does it constantly happen?

I can't explain the feeling I get but it's almost like I can feel her or something. It's actually this gut feeling and I can feel it in my body. I can't explain it but I just always know, always. That door makes the same noise when it opens for anyone.

Also, you can always hear peoples keys rattling as they get them out to open their room doors. I just can't describe it and it's weird that I wake up out of a deep sleep.

Is it myself who's warning myself that she's back or is it someone else, like my spirit guide or something, that's warning me that she's back?

I know this story is old but I found it interesting. I am an "oido absoluto" (absolute ear is the exact translation but I don't know how it is called in english exactly) and its an ability to hear even the quietest and minimal of sounds. I can recognize them easily and keep them in my head for years. I can listen to any music and write down each note any instrument plays. Maybe you can too. When anybody from my floor is coming up, I know who it is because they make a sound when they walk, their keys have a unique sound too, etc. Maybe that is what happens in your case. Your brain knows all the sounds she makes and that is why you know its her.

maybe you two have like a special connection! I have the same thing happen to me with my mother...sorta. Ever since my alarm clock broke she has been waking me up in the mornings. Well, normally, I'm in such a deep sleep by 6 am I wouldn't be able to wake up on my own. She comes to get me at different times so its not like my body is used to waking up at this time. But its like I can feel her presence even though if my father or sister wakes me up, ill be dead asleep! So I don't know, I'm a late sleeper1

Maybe the sound and noise she makes wakes you up! Or maybe you have a feeling that knows that its her.

Listen to your gut feeling, you may not always understand everything, but that isn't always a bad thing. Try to discern how this presence makes you aroused.
