Waking Up to People Calling my Name

I've asked a lot of people about this, but I get different responses, I don't recall a time in my life that this hasn't happened, and some people have told me it happens a lot. I'll be sleeping soundly and sit up saying "What?" because I heard someone calling my name as if they were in the same room, at times I recognize the voice, my grandmother (deceased), my mom (living) and some I have no idea who they are. I just recall how "clear" their voices are, it doesn't scare me, I just want to know why that happens.

In the case of my Grandmother she always says "Teresa Gail", my ex mother in law says its God's way of letting me know these people need prayer, if so why would my grandmother need it? She's been dead since 1987.

Others have told me they are spirits trying to contact me, or it's a warning, it confuses me and I want to know if its a good or bad thing, or both?, I mean between seeing people who have been deceased, having visions of the deceased, and now realizing I'm talking to the deceased (in some cases) I'm beginning to think I'm a strange sort.

However my youngest son sees people who are deceased as well, particularly when he visits his dads grave, and it isn't his father he sees, just other people, I try to assure him its ok, its a gift he has, is it wrong of me to say that?

I was just having a vivid dream where I was in a different house and found a door I hadn't noticed before in my bedroom that led to outside and it wasn't locked. Later (in the dream) realized that someone was stalking me and sneaking in to watch me sleep at night. I was woken abruptly by this dream by a male voice I'm not familiar with calling my name from the hall. I got up to check and called out my dads name to see if he was home and he's not. I did lock the back door earlier in the night (where the noise was coming from). When I got back in bed I was looking across the room and saw a ziplock bag that had my cats meds get swiped hard off the desk 2 feet across from where it was laying. I'm still in shock at the chain of events as there were no windows open for any wind. I know people have died in this house I don't think that's who called my name, but what could they want and is it bad?

I see that this post is 10 years old, but I've experienced this "dream-calling" my name (for the 1st time) 3 times in the last week.
Last night I was awoken by it, and when I asked my boyfriend (who was sleeping next to me) what did he want, he said he didn't call out my name.
I got chills going down my spine but I went back to sleep because he hugged me.
I see deceased people and talk with them in my dreams, I see beings from other realms, I visit other realms and I often astral project.
I even have lucid dreams.
But this is the first time I'm experiencing someone calling my name and waking me up, only to see that no one is calling me or that nobody' there.
I'm open for advice, suggestions and ideas on how to deal with this and what could it be.
Thank you ☺

I heard someone call my name when I was camping with my friend, we were surrounded by forest. I was right between being awake and alseep. It was a female's voice, very calm, a normal volume, and clear. I knew it came from the forest, but I heard it right in my ear, and felt it right in my chest, a light pressure and heat. I said "hello?" cautiously, then woke my friend and asked if she had heard it. She said heard what, so I asked her if she had said my name. She said no, so I asked her, scared now, if she was teasing me. She said no, once again and fell back alseep. The next morning I asked her about it again and she said when she was having a dream she heard someone say my name.

I've heard my name called many times, voices I didn't know. Its never bothered me until yesterday.
I woke up the other nite, I thought I'd been dreaming that I'd heard my dad's trying to call me or say something, and then I heard it again. He died wen I was 13, and he had never stepped foot in this house.
Wat could that mean and why now?
I was told that maybe wen the dead call you they are trying to get you to go with them and telling you its soon time. Anyone have any ideas?

I would first of all like to say that its perfectly o.k to tell your son that. It is a gift! I hear voices too. Mostly my mothers. And it will be screaming, like its furious at me! It doesn't happen every day but often. It startles me because I'll be like "Mom, what did I do this time?" and she'll be like "what?" Then she'll really be calling my name and I won't answer and then she'll be really mad at me. But a lot of people do hear voices.
So like that's okay to hear them.

You know there are many people out there in the world that don't believe in God and go throughout life expecting only death or choose not to care either way. I look at it this way. We were given a gift and the best part about having that gift is the gift of knowing. There is no doubt in my mind that God doesn't exist and what a better gift than that. 😁

I've had my name being yelled while I was in deep sleep. This woke me instantly. They were warning me to check my son. I have thanked that spirit for protecting my son.

Same thing happens to me; has all my life. Just the other night I actually got out of bed because I distinctly heard my husband call my name. I found him asleep, but woke him up to make sure he was okay.

Thank you for all your comments 😁 I do guide my youngest, I let him know that to be careful, he don't want to open doors that should be kept shut, His older brother I think has a gift too, when he was 18 months old, I had him go in his room to pick up his toys, after about 5 minutes I went to check his progress, was I SUPRIZED 😲 his toys wasn't the only thing picked up, his clothes were neatly folded an sitting on his dresser and his bed had been made!, I asked him "Aaron...how'd you do this?",he just smiled and pointed under his bed and said "G'ma eck"...I interpreted it as "Grandma eckley" as that was his Great grandmas name was, but she died 4 years before he was born.

Teresa... Well by now you would have known if the voices were a warning and if you are hearing your name called by both of the living and the dead scrap the spirit of the person needs prayer theory. And if it was a spirit messing with you... After all these years it would seem that there would have been more happening in the haunting department. It might be that your dreams are that lucid... Exceptional dreaming is what I call it. Your son gets his ability from someone ! And his ability will be a mixed bag... Its sort of cool to see dead people and not so cool when they bother you all the time.

I also wake up to people calling my name - it's always my full name, in a voice I don't recognise. I also experience spirit voices reading out lists of names like it's a Doctor's waiting room, and my name will be in there somewhere. But if it is spirits that are saying my name, I feel like they don't care if I respond or not. It doesn't seem like they're trying to get my attention, it's more like it's just a train timetable announcement! I wish I knew what it meant!

I hear voices a lot of spirits/ghosts saying my name and they talk really fast as well. Once I had a man who I could only hear he told me to open door so I looked in a strange way then went to the door and my nan was outside about to put the key in. I've been through loads of experiences. I hear noises and hear voices and I see ghosts and I know when there there and touching me.

Teresa - TY for the post. It's making me wonder. Wish I was more well read. Years ago, I heard a preacher type guy say we should pray for those who have gone to the great beyond because it can help them. Kinda shucked it off. Never heard that before. Lately been on wondering and thinking mode and have been thinking of that a lot. Now I will definitely look it up, in the Bible. I'm careful what I say with the kiddies, especially the oldest. Everyone says he's sooo gifted mentally and athletically and his life is so pushed to accomplish. I've always told him to relax and know things aren't always about this narrow place we see. He calls me sometimes with odd questions because he grew up with me so I think he understands. He does it too. People ask him. I don't think he sees spirits though. I don't, not usually, a few. I think some spirits are very sweet, and it's emotional to see them. I think some are destroyers. Anything I like or want, they don't. It's good to be careful. With your young one, it's not bad to guide him and have him be careful. He's just a strong person so you may have special challenges. As the older person, his guide, you can be more discerning.
